Embarkation Day - Zuiderdam - Canada/New England - June 21, 2025
I woke up early and saw that the ship hadn't arrived yet so my niece and I dressed and headed out to a bridge with a good view of the port. I overestimated how fast the ship was moving so we had a while to wait but eventually after the sun had risen, the ms Zuiderdam arrived! This was our first glimpse of our ship which is always an exciting part of the trip.
By this point, we were starving so headed back to the hotel for breakfast, packed up, and then hung out in the lobby until it was time to walk over to the port. We arrived at the port a little after 11:00 a.m. and were boarding by 11:40 a.m. The only slow down was the time it took to fill out customs forms as we would be arriving in Canada a few days into our cruise.
I booked an inside cabin across the hall from family members. It was a unique sideways layout that I really kind of liked. Here is a tour of the cabin.
At 3:00 p.m., we had to visit our muster stations after watching the safety video in the cabin. I took advantage of that time to walk the promenade deck. This was my first chance at some quiet alone time on the ship. Overall, this trip would go much better than I had expected but I had a few moments where emotions hit me - these few minutes before we sailed away were one of those moments. I've come a long ways in my healing but I still have a ways to go.
I wore a Hawaiian dress to dinner, it seemed appropriately festive to kick off this cruise, even though we weren't headed to Hawaii. I originally was not seated with the rest of my family but upon boarded we had talked to the Maitre'D and he had assigned us all a new table on deck two.
I took a stroll on the promenade before sunset.
This recreational boat seemed curious so came close to check us out and then turned around and headed back towards land.
