Charlottetown, PEI - Zuiderdam - Canada/New England - June 25, 2025

As we were arriving in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, I spent some time on the bow watching sail in.  I understand from the captain, the wind conditions had changed between the time they picked up the pilot and actually arrived at port and made it a very challenging docking day.  The captain indicated had he know ahead of time what he would be facing, he would have cancelled the port.  As it was we were docked further back than normal and so were a bit more limited on the gangway we could use.

These next three photos are of the Brighton Beach Range Lights which a group of us would visit today.

Once the ship had been cleared, my sister, nephew, and I headed out to explore.

An Ecco boat tour offered through the cruise line

After walking through town, this is the boardwalk we followed to get to the lighthouse

Beaconsfield Historic House - It was closed on this day but I would have a chance to go back and tour it the following week.

Our first glimpse of the Brighton Beach Range Front Light - it works in conjunction with the Back Light (see later photos) to help ships know whether they are in the channel by lining up the red stripes and lights.

Tide was high so we couldn't walk out to it without walking through private property which we did not want to do, so we just viewed it from this small boat ramp.

The Brighton Beach Range Back Light - this literally was in someone's front yard.

My sister then pointed out some pretty amazing mushrooms in the grass as we started our walk back!

After photographing the mushrooms, we headed back into town, stopped at a pharmacy to buy cold drinks, sat in an air conditioned mall for a few minutes while we rehydrated, and then continued on to find a couple churches.

St. James Presbyterian Church

St. Paul's Church

St. Dunstan's Basilica

After dinner, my Dad, nephew, and I headed out one more time since this was a late port.  We wanted to watch the sunset and see the ship with its lights on.  I way underestimated how the temperatures were dropping and almost froze to do death but it was still neat to get the beautiful golden hour colors even if the sunset wasn't all that spectacular.

One last note before I close this post, at every Canadian stop, I looked for these maple sugar candies.  I had remembered them from last time I visited Canada and they are so delicious!
