2018 Caribbean Cruise - Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Sunday, December 2, 2018

Today we arrived very early in Ft. Lauderdale.  We woke up as we were coming into port.  We watched a number of ships come in after us.  Our flight wasn't supposed to leave until 6:00 p.m. tonight and so we thought we would schedule an excursion to fill some of that time.

Our excursion tickets said to meet at 6:45 a.m. and we were among the first off the ship around 7:15 a.m. (with luggage tag number 1).  We boarded a bus and headed to the Everglades where we took an airboat tour and had a chance to check out their animal exhibits and watch a reptile show.  We were also supposed to have time to watch the mammal show but our bus driver told us it was time to go before we had a chance to do that which made no sense.  The excursion was advertised as a 4 hour excursion (I think one spot referenced 4.5 hours) and supposed to go until 12:30 p.m.  So it was a bit puzzling when they dropped us off at the airport at 10:40 a.m.!  We could have just relaxed on the ship and gotten off at one of the later times and made it to the airport at about the same time - so much for filling time with an excursion!

Cannibal, one of the largest known alligators to exist, measures in currently at 19'2" and weighs over 800 lbs; alligators continue to grow until they pass.  His mate Crystal in the background is small in comparison.
