Today was a wonderful relaxing day. We grabbed breakfast from the buffet and ate it in the room.
Mid morning we attended a presentation put on by the Ship’s First Officer about how things work on the bridge which was really interesting. We followed that with brunch in the main dining room (here is a link to the menu) where we enjoyed interesting conversation with a British couple and two other couples. My husband talked with the British husband about Top Gear and cars. We then spent the afternoon in our room catching up on blog posts, reading, and watching the waves go by. We had some very dense fog for a while such that the ship blew its horn every two minutes.
Some interesting things we learned from the Ship’s First Officer - A sextant is an instrument that historically was used to determine position based on the angle of the sun or a star. This instrument is accurate within 1-2 nautical miles. Today’s technology has an accuracy of 7 centimeters! The ship’s draft is 8.3 meters and so in order to dock they need a minimum of 10.3 meters depth. They are in constant contact with the ports especially as tides change.
Then it was off to dinner (here is a link to the menu) before another evening of entertainment. The main act in the theater tonight was Josh Keating. He is a pop/opera singer. We left partway through the show because he really wasn’t very good. I think he would have been much better if he had focused more on the opera and less on the pop and combining the two.
