We headed out about 6:00 a.m. this morning. Today's goal: Red Clay State Historic Park just across the Tennessee border and then the hotel in Cleveland, TN. For lunch we stopped at Chic Fil A Dwarf House in Stockbridge, GA (just south of Atlanta) and had one of our best meals. We drove 465.3 miles today for a total of 8 hours and 5 minutes in the car.
The Red Clay State Historic Park was a great stop. We hiked the 1.7 mile Trail of Tears hiking trail, walked around replicas of typical buildings of the Cherokee in the early 1800s and walked through the Visitor's Center with more information on the Cherokee and their push west. It was really interesting. The scenery was beautiful and it was comfortable outside even though temps exceeded 90 (humidity was very low). The place was quiet and it was a great break. Here are a few pictures:
We then drove the 20 miles to the Clarion Inn in Cleveland, TN. We ate at Fulin's Asian Cuisine which was so good, relaxed by the pool and then in the room.
