Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos - Adventure of the Seas Eastern Caribbean Cruise - April 14, 2024

As we head east, the sun keeps getting up earlier but that didn't stop me from setting the alarm earlier this morning so I could catch it and then watch us sail into Grand Turk.  Again, it was quiet out on the helipad.

Raising the Royal Caribbean flag

I love watching the rope handlers!

After sail in, we went to the Windjammer Buffet for breakfast - this was our first time in the buffet this trip.  I was excited to find an avocado toast with smoked salmon station.

Then we headed down to deck 1 to the gangway to explore the port.  We had visited this port once before on a Princess cruise in 2022 and I remember getting a chance to do a little bird watching but first we wanted to watch the Scarlet Lady dock next to us.

The Scarlet Lady - Here she comes!

One last view of the Adventure of the Seas before the Scarlet Lady pulls in next to it.

They had cleared the water of swimmers before The Scarlet Lady docked because of how close the pier is to the beach.

This is one of the trails beyond the beach where we did some bird watching.

Blue-grey Gnatcatcher - There were a lot of these little birds hanging around.

Ruddy Turnstones

Another Blue-grey Gnatcatcher

Blue-grey Gnatcatcher

Blue-grey Gnatcatchers are native to the US as well so we have seen them before.  What comes next is a bird we had never seen before and it sounds like one that is usually a bit elusive as it hards deep in the bushes.  Paul noticed just this head peeking out as we were trying to follow the Blue-grey Gnatcatcher pictured in the photo above.
Mangrove Cuckoo

Mangrove Cuckoo - Eventually I was able to find a spot with a clearer view than just the head.

Mangrove Cuckoo after he flew to another bush more in the shadows giving me a nice view of his back.

Grand Turk has an exhibit featuring John Glenn and the Friendship 7 capsule that splashed into the Atlantic not that far from this island.

A couple photos of the port shopping area

Ready to head back to the ship

We had to stop and admire the Scarlet Lady up close!

Back in the room we cleaned up and then spent some time in the Imperial Lounge where Paul played Mario Kart.  No one else showed up so he just had fun playing against the game and did very well.  I took advantage of that time to enjoy a drink and edit photos.

We ventured into the buffet for lunch which was a bit crazy before checking out a different view of the Scarlet Lady and then finding a shady, breezy spot outside to just enjoy the weather and views.  We had a lot of time to just relax since dinner wasn't until 7:45 p.m. and it was well needed relaxation time.  In our cabin, we had a treat from the chef due to our loyalty status - a chocolate covered strawberry, two rich chocolate cake pops, and a couple other quite tasty desserts.

I enjoyed sail away from the helipad.  The Scarlet Lady was staying later than us.

The front lines on this pier were elevated on these pedestals.

Dinner tonight was A Taste of UK.  Food has been really good on this cruise and I really like our wait staff Mel and Erina.  I think this photo taken by the ship's photographer's is from this night.
