Family B2B Cruise - June 28, 2022 - Roatan, Honduras

This morning was sunrise number 10 of the cruise and the first I skipped.  I was tired and the sun was set to rise at 5:15 a.m. which was the earliest it had been all cruise (although it would have felt much later as we had set the clocks back two hours in the past two nights).  It was nice to sleep in.

We arrived in Roatan at about 10:00 a.m.  Although an NCL ship was also in port, that ship docked at a pier in the distance so it felt like we were the only ship in port.

Wanting to look for wildlife before the ship emptied out, we waited in the piazza for the announcement that the ship had been cleared and were down at the deck four gangway before the announcement had finished with only a few people in front of us.

Remembering the port from a number of years ago, we headed straight for the path for the beach and veered off on the nature trail as soon as it split off.

Before we reached the nature trail, we stopped to admire a woodpecker in a nearby tree.  I believe this is a Golden-fronted Woodpecker.

We had barely stepped foot on the path when Paul alerted me to a Roatan Spiny-tailed Iguana sitting in the path.  He let me take one photograph before jumping to a tree where he could peer around to see if we still were hanging around.

Just a few feet beyond the iguana a couple of small mammals chased across the path.  It appears they were Roatan Island Agouti.

The nature path followed the shore and so we got a few glimpses of our ship along the way.

The birds were sure noisy but it was often hard to find them in the trees.

White-crowned Pigeon

I believe this is a Black-whiskered Vireo

I believe this is an immature Green Breasted Mango Hummingbird.

I believe this is a female Green-throated Mountain-gem Hummingbird.

Throughout our walk, we noticed numerous Roatan Spiny-tailed Iguanas hanging in trees.  This one was doing some acrobatics to find some food.

After our hot and sticky walk through the nature trail, we made walked through a store or two and then headed back to the ship.

We had lunch on at the Salty Dog Grill on the Lido deck and then spent the afternoon hanging out in public spaces watching people and socializing while I went through my photos.  Dinner was in the main dining room with just my parents.  My sister and her family had booked another night at the specialty restaurant.  After dinner we listened to the steel drum player for a little while.  I headed back to the room early while Paul went to the second show by the Vocal Impressionist Tricia Kelly.
