This morning was sunrise number 10 of the cruise and the first I skipped. I was tired and the sun was set to rise at 5:15 a.m. which was the earliest it had been all cruise (although it would have felt much later as we had set the clocks back two hours in the past two nights). It was nice to sleep in.
We arrived in Roatan at about 10:00 a.m. Although an NCL ship was also in port, that ship docked at a pier in the distance so it felt like we were the only ship in port.

Wanting to look for wildlife before the ship emptied out, we waited in the piazza for the announcement that the ship had been cleared and were down at the deck four gangway before the announcement had finished with only a few people in front of us.
Remembering the port from a number of years ago, we headed straight for the path for the beach and veered off on the nature trail as soon as it split off.
Before we reached the nature trail, we stopped to admire a woodpecker in a nearby tree. I believe this is a Golden-fronted Woodpecker.
We had barely stepped foot on the path when Paul alerted me to a Roatan Spiny-tailed Iguana sitting in the path. He let me take one photograph before jumping to a tree where he could peer around to see if we still were hanging around.
Just a few feet beyond the iguana a couple of small mammals chased across the path. It appears they were Roatan Island Agouti.
