Smoky Mountains Cabin Trip - Day 2 - Thursday, May 13, 2021

I set the alarm for 5:45 a.m. (eastern time) with hopes of seeing the sunrise around 6:30 a.m.  After setting up the camera, I went up to the kitchen to make my first cup of coffee to enjoy as the sun rose.  It wasn't the best sunrise I have seen but really not much beats savoring a good cup of coffee while listening to the birds and watching the light change.

Paul eventually joined me but split his time between checking out the view and playing arcade games.

The fog rose up about 45 minutes after sunrise.

Chestnut-sided Warbler

Red-eyed Vireo

After breakfast, we all piled into one car and headed to Gatlinburg to see Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies and wander town.   A long tunnel of large aquariums full of sharks, turtles, and other interesting fish really made it a pretty neat aquarium.

During our walk through Gatlinburg, we stopped so some of us could taste some moonshine and then found somewhere to eat lunch.  On the way back to the cabin, we detoured to the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail to do some sightseeing mostly from the car of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

I loved how the shadows moved with the clouds.

Downy Woodpecker

A Black and White Warbler that didn't want its photo being taken.

Eastern Phoebe

As the golden hour approached a rainbow appeared in the horizon and then we saw some pretty reds from the sunset (which set behind us).
