Tom Bevill Lock & Dam and Visitor's Center and U.S. Snagboat Montgomery, Pickensville, AL

We decided to head back to the Tom Bevill Lock & Dam near Pickensville on the Tombigbee River Valley (almost to the Mississippi border) when the Visitor's Center was open.

The Visitor's Center is a reproduction of a early 1900's house (on a smaller scale).

The second floor includes exhibits about traveling the rivers and locks and dams.  The highlight of us though, was the second floor balcony which overlooked the front of the house (river side).  A flock of cedar waxings was hanging out in the trees just off the balcony and swooping down to the bush with berries below.  They were so much fun to watch!  And photograph!

Then we checked out the U.S. Snagboat Montgomery which is a paddleboat that is dry docked right next to the museum.

If you stepped on the red lever on the far right of this photo, it blowed the ship's horn!

While we were exploring the U.S. Snagboat Montgomery, a barged locked through the lock and dam!

Between the birds and the boats and we had a great excursion!
