This morning, our hope had been to go up the Arch and then take a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi. We knew the riverboat cruise was a long shot as the Mississippi was above flood stage and they had not been running the cruises in recent days. I understand the Coast Guard makes that call as the wake from boats can challenge the integrity of the flood walls. We arrived at the Old Courthouse at 8:30 a.m. to buy tickets only to find out the Journey to the Top of the Arch was sold out for the day and that although they were running the riverboat cruises, the first one wouldn’t be until 1:30 p.m.
We toured the Old Courthouse which has a beautiful painted dome.
We paid the National Parks fee to be able to go into the Arch building and watch the documentary of the building of the Arch and then took pictures of the grounds. The Arch Museum itself is under construction.
Then we walked to the City Garden a few blocks north before heading home.
You can actually walk inside this guy's head. |
This looks like a fountain, not a pool to me. |
We left St. Louis about 11:00 a.m. and arrived home a little after 5:00 p.m. for a total of 387 miles with an average of 32.4 mpg per the trip computer.
For the entire trip, we traveled 874.1 miles and averaged 34.4 mpg.
